Mario Späte is a producer / songwriter and mixing engineer based in South Australia. Mario has worked and written with some of the biggest names in Australian music, toured internationally and his productions have received airplay on national radio here in Australia and the US.

MUSIC

Mario co-wrote and produced Tkay Maidza's break-out singles 'Brontosaurus' and 'Handle My Ego' putting her in the Australian conscience. ARIA winning artists, Megan Washington and Montaigne.Urthboy, Woodes, Evan Klar, Electric Fields, Heaps Good Friends, MANE, Wing Defence, Stellie, Nakatomi, Nicole Millar, KLP, Jake Stone (Bluejuice), Okenyo, The Land Below (Sweden), Towns, Allday. In 2018 Mario was signed to Origin Music Publishing (Gotye, Megan Washington) , was the recipient of the Robert Stigwood Fellowship. He has won SAMA’s Best Engineer/Producer for 3 years running . His work was also nominated for the 2020 ARIA’s for the critically aclaimed comedy musical Cross Bread. In 2022 he recorded, co-produced and mixed Elsy Wameyo’s debut EP ‘Nilotic’ which saw her win the J Award for Unearthed Artist of the Year and support the Hiitop Hoods for their last sold-out tour of Europe As well as co-write and produce ‘Pretty Ugly’ from Ziggy Ramo’s debut album Sugar Coated Lies which as Triple J feature album in March.

THEATRE & TV

His theatre credits include compositions for Patch Theatre, No Strings Attached, Restless Dance and the Adelaide Centre for the Arts. Co-founder of The Misery Children Theatre Company, the company won a coveted Melbourne Greenroom Award for their self devised show 'Mutzenball' and a Critics Circle Award for his score of 'Bash' and 'Sons & Mothers'. 

His work on the show '19 Weeks' received huge claim, with a sell out season during the Adelaide Fringe. It also received the top prize of Best Theatre 2017 and was invited to the Edinburgh Fringe and a season in New York. 

Recently he made his television debut, composing the score for Closer Productions ABC show, F*!king Adelaide and mixing 2 live performances on ABC’s The Sound (Electric Fields & Megan Washington)
